C1 1959 Seat frames and rails

    Hi all

What size and head pattern are the bolts that hold the seat frame to the rails?

    Thanks
    Clark

Clark, I can't remember the size, but I remember that they are fine thread and have an indented head with washer head that has serrations for locking. The bolt is fairly short (about 3/4") and is black oxide in color. As far as I know nobody reproduces the bolt, and you may have to use a generic bolt and lockwasher. I was missing one on my car and it took a lot of scrounging in junkyards to find one, the fine thread part is what made it hard to find!

I just bought Paragon #4277K (5/16-18 x 3/4, "E", dished hex head with flange) for radiator mount; threy list these as also for seat mounting.

        Al,
You are right about those bolts being used for mounting the rails to the floor, but I belive that Clark was looking for bolts to mount the frame to the rails.

The seat frame to rail bolts ona 61' were Cadmium Plated Clutch Head bolts and are hard to fine. Some people have replaced them with hex or Allen bolts.

            Dennis,
I had heard that the bolts were clutch head on 61 and 62 cars both, you got to wonder why they went to these bolts as clutch head bolts were almost not used anymore! Were they fine thread like earlier seats ?

              John,

All the Clutch head screws that I found during restoration of my 61', did not have fine threads (Like the door or soft top mount brackets fine thread bolts). Why GM used them, I do not know and there locations, like the Clutch pedal push rod bracket could have been for counter sink purposes.
