    Help finding car insurance

I am trying to find insurance for my 1970 Corvette. I am finding the classic car insurance to be rather restrictive. I want to dirve my car more than just to shows and back.

Does anyone know of a company that could insure a car that would only be driven on nice days (no winter driving and no rain driving) probably less than 3500 mile a year.

The rates I am getting quoted from the big firms (not all would even consider insuring it) seems quite high (around $600 per 6 months). Futhermore, my wife and I both have clean records and there are no young drivers in the household.

Any help on finding decent coverage at a decent price would be greatly appreciated.

Mike, I have my 78 Pace Car and 93 40th Anniversary Conv both insured with State Farm. The Pace Car premium is $319/6 months with no restrictions. I don't know how rates are in your state, but I feel that Pennsylvania's are quite high.

    Hope this helps.

Hi, I would like to know what kind of coverage you carry and if any restrictions are in force. I pay about the same but my 75 vette is insured only as a 75 chevy with 100-300 liability. No theft insurance or collision. Thanks, John

        Mike--

My 70 big block is insured with Hagerty through my independent insurance agent. The coverage is basically for nice days (on average about 1 day per week) for 3500 miles per year. It must be garaged and cannot be left out of sight (e.g. grocery store and movies) and total cost is $187 per 12 months with no deductible and agreed value of $20k. $300k/100k with $75 for towing/incident. I feel pretty happy with this level of coverage and the price!

              State Farm Insurance

Keith, thanks for responding so quickly.

I live in Delaware and don't believe that our insurance costs are particularly high. I contacted a local State Farm representative and was quoted a 6 month price of $635 (1970 Corvette with a value of $20,000). My wife and I have a clean driving record and no young drivers in the family.

This includes full coverage (liability, collision, comprehensive etc) $1000 deductible and $100 thousand/$300 thousand coverage. Also, the car cann't be driven more than 7500 miles per year.

I will try some other State Farm agents in my area. I would have thought that they all have the same rates - but that may not be the case.

I may write you back for the name of your PA agent if I am not having any luck.

              Thanks again.

                Re: State Farm Insurance

I have a "Stated Value", full coverage, policy from State Farm Insurance for my '64 convertible with 100/250 deductables, 100/330K liability etc. The car is appraised at $25,000 and I pay $98 every six months. These loweer rates may be do the the geographic location where I live which is in Omaha, NE. I'd think that State Farm Agent was trying to hose you. Hope you find a policy that is more to your liking.
