    Boom Box!

Get a good quality boom box with remote control. Find one that either runs on 12V, or when you add up all the 1.5v batteries, they make 12v. Then run a fused wire under the carpet back to the jack area. Connect this via a disconnect plug to where +/- terminals are and voila, instant hi fidelity that you can take with you. And you don't screw up pretty blue and white cars.

A special high performance mechanical lifter camshaft and off-road exhaust is all the music I need in a vintage Corvette.

For what it's worth, I purchased a small power inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter for my C3, it converts the 12v DC to 120v AC. They have all different sizes and capacities (order by wattage requirement of your boom box), they're fused and totally portable. Works nicely for my needs, just plop the cd/boom box behind the seats & plug it in. No fuss, no muss, no running wires under the carpet. Purchased by mail order @ Northern Tool, 1-800-556-7885 or www.northerntool.com ($40 & Up) Park the car, unplug it, & put it away.

What I made for one of my Corvettes was a self contained box that fit in the rear behind the seats between the wheel wells and was about 10 inches deep. The box was divided into three sections, left center and right. It contained a left and right speaker system consisiting of woofers, mid range and tweeters on each end of the box. In the center section I installed the remote control stereo system. I just ran a couple wires from the battery to the box to power it. I covered the box with matching fabric and speaker grill cloth. I plan on building another similar system for my '67 when it becomes road worthy.

            How can you hear it??

I would consider full headphones in my C2 convertible if I was going on a long trip.

Bose acustic wave radio and cd player can be plugged into your cigar lighter and it now comes with a remove control. You will get a lot more enjoyment listening to the Bose in the garage when your are not driving. The Bose radio is the small one, the Bose acustic wave radio the bigger unit.

Most of the time I forget to ever turn on the radio on my 71 coupe. The car's own sounds are much too nice. I leave the radio for my winter driver pickup.
