    66 door latching mechanism

I've removed the door latching mechanism from the inside of the door. It's so gooped up with old grease, dirt etc., that the locking levers wont operate. Is there a good way to clean this thing without gumming it up even more?

    John,
I get results when soaking (immersing)the assembly in a container of lacquer thinner and scrubbing with an old toothbrush. I relube it with lubriplate - sparingly.

Thanks Don. That's what I was leaning towards. That slop looks like it's been in there all 36 years.
