      John - you are correct...it pushes inward to tension the belt, and rides on the outside of the belt. Craig

          and go to part #2118 and click on the "PIC", a picture of the assembly comes up. It is the outside idler.

              Thanks for the feed back - This should get me further along... I hope. Have you had any problems running this configuration... (trying to understand why the pulley was removed?)?

                  The 69-74 big block with AC used a NON-GROOVED idler pulley as you have described. The AIM drawing might be a "generic" sort of drawing with "carryover" from 1968 set-up which used a grooved pulley.

                      John, as Joe mentions, it was removed in 1969. The new style works very well, no problems whatsoever...Craig
