Judging Classifications

I see at the national convention next year there are juging classifications for American Heritage, Sportsman and 5th Star Candidate. What is involved in these judging classifications and what is the difference between each? I could not find anything in the archives or in the NCRS definitions on this site for these classifications.

The 5th star has always been available for 4-star Bowtie cars. The other two judging divisons have been around for three or four years. They were spelled out in THE RESTORER about 1998 I think or refer to an NCRS Judging Reference Manual for details.

Reba gives you the truth--consult a recent edition of the NCRS Judging Reference Manual which details the various award recognition categories the club offers. It's been 'obsolete' to think of NCRS as a place where you HAVE to restore/preserve your Corvette by making it into a museum piece or 'trailer queen'....

The Founder's Award is aimed at those members who want to be involved in all aspects of the club (judging, restoring, contributing to publications) and have a desire to DRIVE/USE their Corvette vs. pack it into an enclosed car hauler.

The Sportsman Award is aimed at those members who aren't that concerned about factory originality and/or have newer Corvettes than those being Flight judged.

The Star/Bowtie Award is for unrestored Corvettes deemed to be historically and educationally significant. The 5th Star of this award applies to those cars that were superior enough to garner a Bowtie Award (four Star category wins) and the owner went on to bring the car out for others to see and learn from as an educational tool.

The American Heritage is tailored to the Corvette that doesn't fit conventional NCRS judging categories. Here are a few examples:

GM Styling Car
GM Experimental Car
Factory or Vintage Race Car

There are MANY ways to own, restore and preserve the Corvette marque and we have a very wide arsenel now to suit members from just about any perspective.
