    frame paint

    Hello-
Does anyone know the exact amount of flattening agent required to reproduce the semi-gloss black chassis paint for Regular (old fashion) IMRON. Our local Dupont agent claims he can only do flat black, even though he was given the formula number from our archives!! I know we have beat this subject to death but no where does the archives actually gives the percentages of the flattening agent needed.

    Thanks.

According to Rick Johnson, author of "Corvette Restoration Source Book 1953-1967"
thinning the Imron 15% with Dupont 903-S Flattner should produce the correct sheen.

The formula I had was N8079U. My local paint supplier (handles DuPont and other brands) was able to get that formula.

          Steve -

I did mine with DP-90 flattened about 20% - came out very nicely.

The primer Dupont recommended was Dupont 615S self-etching (used with 616S converter). Scrub the frame thoroughly with a quality metal cleaner/prep first (can't recall right now what I used, wasn't Dupont but it was a major brand... ask your paint supplier for a recommendation), then clean it again just to make sure, before you apply any primer.
