    C-1 Harmonic Balance Rebuild

The original Harmonic Balancer on my 1962 is beginning to show signs of separating. Does anyone rebuild these? If not, does anyone know where I can get a correct balancer? I have looked everywhere, well at lease it seams like everywhere.

well, what size do you have? do you have the big 8" finned one. if so i would sell the old one on e-bay and call goat hill classics and buy a dated new repro. their same as original. don't waste your $100.00 to rebuild. dampner dudes did one for me and it SUCKED!

Thanks for your response. My 1962 is a 300hp. Sorry I didn't say that in my original post. The harmonic Balancer for a 300hp is thin and 6" in diameter. Help if you can!

John, The Paragon Reproductions catalog lists a 1958-1965 rebuilt original 6" balancer, as well as a parts only rebuild kit. Hope this helps. Dave

CHECK WITH GM. I THINK THIS BALANCER IS STILL AVAILABLE.

            I have had several rebuilt...

Through Glaziers Mustang Barn. (Yeah, I know). Cost varies depending on style, but usually not more than $125. You get your original back on the car, preserving balance and originality. As far as I know, not one of their rebuilds has ever been returned or caused complaint.

If this is a riveted balancer, I did my own on a 250HP '63. I got the kit (rivets and rubber parts) from one of the vendors (might have been Paragon), disassembled mine, cleaned everything and then bolted it back together. Found out that tightening too much caused the rubber to squeeze out, so I took it apart, and glued the rubber in with weatherstrip adhesive and rebolted it. Then I took out bolts one at a time and replaced them with the rivets. I had the guys in the shop at work make me up a "waffle" riveting tool for my air chisel. I also made up a "guide" for the tool- a small steel plate .25 thick with 3 holes- two outer ones to bolt it in place and the center one to guide the riveting tool on the rivet. Worked great!!
