Many thanks for the info Bill Clupper . On this late car, august, there is not vacume line from the carb to the vacume advance on the distributor.There appears to be only centrifical advance used. I will check the timing and the advance if possible. There are no thermostatic exhaust valves in the exhaust system either that I can see, or are they inside the exhaust manifold where the exhaust pipe bolts on. ie hidden?

Jack, I don't have much more info to offer, If youre using the '847 distributor, it should be a dualpoint, setup on a machine with each set of points at 28-30 degrees of dwell (check each set separately with the other set blocked open with a matchbook cover or similar. the spec for the centrifugal advance should be 32 degrees at the crank (+ initial setting) at 3500 engine rpm. Centrifugal advance should start at 600 rpm, so when setting initial timing, (4 degrees) set it with the engine rpm as low as possible, 450rpm or less, to prevent the centrifugal advance from causing a false reading.
