Help with Carb.

We have a 1976 L-48 vette, it has the rochester mc4m carb, and we have gas pouring out the exhaust when it is shut off, we were told carb, and it would be easier to just change to a new one, but dont know for sure what kind would fit no problem, or how to fix it if it was easy enough.

That sounds like a real mess. I would say float and needle and seat in the carb are the problems most likely. How much gas has washed down the cly into the crankcase.

The last SERVICE carburetor for your application has been discontinued by GM, so a new GM carburetor is not really an option unless you could find an NOS example. Therefore, these are your options, as I see it:

1) Purchase a rebuilt carburetor from an auto parts store or carb rebuilder. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this option.

2) Have YOUR carburetor core rebuilt by an experienced and trusted carb rebuilder. The Carburetor Shop in Rancho Cucomonga, CA is one such shop and there are many others.

3) Purchase a NEW Edelbrock Q-Jet clone. The part number for your application should be #1903. This will be a direct retrofit carb with no mods required. This is ABSOLUTELY the best option and, as you might expect, it's also the most expensive option.

thanks, i would say a bout a pint of gas pours out the exaust when shut ff, but when i just changed the oil there was no gas in the oil
