I was wondering if someone could tell me the details that distinguish the original Corvette antenna from current reproductions. I have heard that there is something about the finish of the mast versus the finish of the ball on top, the size of the ball and some details concerning the nut at the base of the mast. Was this antenana also used in 1968? Should the mast fit into the grooved recess on one side of the nut?

Re: Original 1967 Antenna Masts
Joe. There are correct '67 antenna masts available. The only difference I have found is the ballsize is too small. If memory serves me the ball is .270" diameter but don't bank on my memory. The mast is a tapered shaft. I don't recall the measurements of diameter and length. The base nut on an original has the flats deeper into the sphere of the nut bezel. This is easy to see when a repop is next to an original. Yes, the early '68 vintage model can be found with a '67 style antenna. My early #4k has such a mast. E-mail me if you want exact dimensions and I will measure them.- Top

Re: How do you get the base off?
There are two lugs that sit in a "V" in the sheet metal ground plane bracket. Sounds as if you got some corrosion that hinders the retension in the "V". The lugs are slipping out .......me thinks. Try a buddy with vice grips on the under side to hold as you turn the nut on the top side. Be careful not to crush the aluminum fitting under there.- Top
