According to the JG, "...however very early 1961 radios may appear with either flat or curved finger push buttons." Is there any conventional wisdom with regard to how early is "very early"? (Or, more specifically, would it be reasonable for a 9/21/60 car to have the earlier-style flat buttons?) Thanks, Karl

Re: Early 61 wonderbar pushbuttons
Typically, without VIN number guidelines in the JG book, the use of 'early', 'very early', 'late', Etc. mean there were running changes that were not well controlled with early/late components being 'sprinkled' in along the assy line sort of randomly. In the case of the dished vs. non-dished preset knobs of the WB radio, it's probably a case of left over inventory from '60 being used up on the assy line as it presented itself from stock at the St. Louis factory.
Inventory wasn't 'crisply' controlled on FIFO/LIFO basis and parts were sort of randomly pulled from shelves/bins with new stock replenishing old stock and sometimes pushing the older stock to the back of the shelf/bottom of the bin. So, this is a judge's call regarding WHAT constitutes a 'very early' car....
Since '61 production began in Septemeber of '60, your car IS a September build, I guess I'd say it was a 'very early' unit. But, you might consider writing the National Team Leader for '60-61 to see if my personal judgement call 'washes' with skilled in the art, expert opinion....- Top
