Is there anybody out there replating headlamp actuators and relays.

Patrick had this post for brake booster replating, I bet they will do the headlamp actuators too:

Check out Steve Gregori at www.brakeboosters.com if you want them replated.

      Re: C3 Headlamp actuator replating?

I just called Steve and he said that he can't offer replating on vacuum actuators. He stated that there is a possibility of getting the solution inside the actuator and it will either cause the seals to prematurely fail, or the solution will leak out at a later time and ruin the plating.

          Disagree....

with plater--Steve.... Have done this MANY times (send out a used HL actuator for cad + dichromate plating AFTER doing applicable surface prep of the cannister) without a hiccup. Internal components are basically rubber and steel that will 'laugh' at the hostile electro-plate environment (acid, modest temperature elevation).

Requires the main diaphram be in good repair (not split/leaking) AND the plater take appropriate prep precautions to plug/seal the vac vent lines. After plating and final dichromate dip/bake, flush BOTH sides of the cannister with clean running water to remove any residual impurities from the plating tank and let 'er thouroughly air dry before installing (don't want 'er to start rusting from the inside out).

Now, IF the canister has a ruptured main diaphram (typically NOT the case) or one that's on it's last legs, the plating process can almost be guaranteed to 'kill' da sucka! So, before investing the time/$$$ to try and save an original cannister, remove the front seal set and verify the integrity of the diaphram by manually actuating it and verifying it holds vac/pressure and moves 'crisply' in response to the 1-way acutuation you can generate with front seals removed....

            Re: Disagree....

            Agree.

Caledonia Classics also replates these, but I believe their price is about that of a new one.
