Re: Isn't the 5.0x15 a better match?
No, it's only 24.5" OD and narrower, so it will have less load capacity.
If you go to a vintage race most of the C-2s are running the 5.50, but I think I've seen some with 6.00s on the rear, and it looked like they had to modify the fenders. The rules for each organization vary on what can be done, but
the C-2s can be at a disadvantage because others such as the Shelby guys can install the larger 6.00-15s.
If you want to run vintage racing tires on KOs I would suggest that you have an alternate set of wheels/tires. I have a set of circa 63-64 7.00-15 Bluestreak Sports Car Specials that will go on my KOs. These are about 27" OD with six inch tread width, and will probably be about 8" OA width on the KOs. The compound was hard to begin with and they are probably rocks now, but they will sure look cool! I will probably also end up with a set of sticky tires on American Torq-Thrusts, plus a set of modern radials on my steel wheels with the OEM wheel covers.
It's real easy to swap wheels and tires to give the car a different look and driving personality to suit the particular use.
