The owner's manual for mid-year and probably other years calls for an SAE 20 amp fuse for the clock, lighter, courtesy and hazard warning circuit. In all my trips to the junkyard, I have never found any fuse that was marked as SAE. Who knows anything about fuses?

Re: SAE glass fuses
Go to a parts store that has a wide variety of fuses in the boxes from Littlefuse, Etc. Look at the box legends. You'll see things like 'SFE 20', 'SBL 20', 'AGC 20'. These designate packaging differences (length, Etc.) as well as particulars on the fuse's operating characteristics (fast reacting, slow-blow, Etc.).
At the scrap yards, you'll find some original fuses in the bayonet's of various cars that you'll ID by the painted color codes. Some will have a color band on the outside of the glass tube while others are banded on the inside of the tube. Seems to vary with fuse supplier and time of manufacture. You'll know you've got the real McCoy (depending on the year of your Corvette) if it's color coded....
PS, there's a devil's choice here. Loading your fuse box with original fuses can put you on the horn's of a dilemma if you use/drive your car regularly. There's simply no good/non-destructive, way to verify the integrity of a fuse! Last, if you do decide to re-claim/re-use original fuses, pull 'em carefully so as not to fracture the glass tube and clean and polish the metal cap ends to insure low ohmic contact.- Top
