Early 78 Front Fender

Hello folks. I have another question about the 1978 Corvette I recently purchased. It has 18,000 miles and is in great shape. The question I have is that the car was produced in 10/1977. As we all know in 1978, the alarm system was moved from the front fender to the drivers side door lock. Well, if you look closely at my car, by the flags on the drivers side fender, you can see a round indentation where the alarm key switch would have been. Do you think they used the leftover fenders? The car is all original and has not been worked on to the best of my knowledge. What do you think?

Hi Chip, By April of 1977 the alarm was moved to the door for the 1977 model year. Corvette # 1Z37X7S427373 was the change. Production started in September of 1977 for the 1978 model year and in September 1977 3186 Corvettes were built, in October 1977 4215 Corvettes were built. I don't think any old 1977 front fender panels were still around at St. Louis to be used for your car. Save the Wave, enjoy your 78.>George

Chip - I once owned a July built 77 that had the 78 style alarm etc. I never saw any hint of a fill or marking on the fender...You should be able to view this area from the inside to see if there are any signs of repair on the back, it should be smooth MM glass....Craig
