Hole in front of courtesy light ('58)

Putting in the dash pad, I cut out the hole for the courtesy light (under the mirror). There's a hole just in front of it. I think this was for a power soft top switch, which I don't have. So I assume I don't cut out the hole in the dash pad, correct?

I think what Loren is trying to say is that all car had the hole for the PT switch even if they did not have the PT.

Was it left as a plain hole?

Clark, thank you for the clearer answer! Was there a trim plate or something that went over the hole, or did they just cut the hole and leave it at that?

The hole in the fiberglass is cut, but not the hole in the pad. At least thay's the way the ones I've taken apart have been.

              Ed,
The judges allways look for a hole cutout in the pad, regardless of whether the car has a power top switch or not. I belive the JG has apicture of what it should look like.

The dozens and dozens and dozens of original-pad 61's and 62's I've looked at in the last 28 years all have had cut-outs in the pad.

                  Agree....

with Rev. Mike. I've yet to find a footnote in an AIM book telling assy line folks to 'prep' the dash pad by hogging a hole for the power top actuator switch....

Does anyone have a picture of it????

I recall I did the cut out on the new dash pad on the 59, but my 61 is missing the cutout and the 61/62 JG does not show a picture. Is there someone who could refer me to a picture??? Thanks

Re: Does anyone have a picture of it????

I have a shot from another car that's not fair, not great. I can scan and send it, but it would be a day or two before I can get to it. The shot doesn't show a whole lot, though. Just that there is an "undecorated" hole just forward of the courtesy light. I personally don't like the look, so I'm leaving it uncut.

If you want the hole, reach in from above and there will be a hole in the fiberglass. Poke a sharp nail (awl won't fit) and you'll have your location. Then from underneath (the side you can see), cut away with an exacto knife.

I still haven't installed my speaker, so if you like, I can send a shot today of what that inside fiberglass area looks like.
