    Dipstick for the L78

I recently had my 65 L78 judged at thenChevyVette Fest in Chicago and was dinged for an incorrect dipstick. Can anyone recommend a vendor that sells a suitable reproduction piece?

By the way the car did extremely well and was awarded a Gold Spinner.

    Chris-----

You mean to tell us that you had the unmitigated gall to show up at a judging event with a dipstick that had an indention below the finger loop and an incorrect colored plastic button on the end? Absolutely inexcusable! They should have run you out of there on a rail and banished you forever from further competition.

Seriously, though, I think that Paragon carries a dipstick which is "correct" (or, at least, as "correct" as any reproduction dipstick). This dipstick has no indention beneath the finger loop and has the correct "pinkish red" plastic button on the end. I don't know, though, if the plastic button has been subjected to spectrophotographic analysis against known original buttons which have been kept in hermetically sealed conatiners for the past 35 years.

      Joe,

Guilty as charged! The aforementioned offending dipstick has a distinct greenish tinge on the tip and a salmon color is what they are looking for. I was, as you can imagine, mortified. Here I thought that the judges were being kind enough to check the oil in my car and send me on my way. You can imagine my shock when no less than 4 judges were called together to confer about this evil dipstick.

A nationwide search has begun to correct this aberration.

        i would think

it is was more important that the dip stick read the correct oil level in the pan.

          Clem,

From my research I have determined that the salmon colored tip at the end of the "correct" dipstick cuts down on turbulence and prevents oiling problems at high rpms. The green tip on the dipstick I have now does not offer that protection for the L78!
