The painted surfaces in the grills are flaking away. What is the correct paint for those surfaces. Also, any suggestions for replacing some studs on the chrome at the bottom of the grills. 3 of them are sheared off.

Re: 70 Grills
I used that cast iron spray paint on my 72 grills. I sprayed the entire grill, and removed the paint from the chrome tips with my fingernail. Looks great.
As far as the studs go, I suppose you could try to remove the remaining part of the studs with a pair of vise grips. If that doesn't work, maybe you could drill out the holes, and use either a threaded insert, or use a self tapping screw from the back.
Good luck.

Re: 70 Grills
70 front grills use these three studs for securing the grille in place and are a 70 only feature. Don't know if this will work, but you could remove the head of a similiar size bolt and use J-B Weld to attach it to your remaining broken bolt. Depending on where the break is you could build up the area with J-B Weld to make it plenty strong since it will not be seen once installed.
Next time you are around 70 Corvettes check out how many don't have the smooth chrome on the bottom of their front grille like yours because they have been replaced.- Top
