65' Corvette Coupe Vapor Barriers/Doors - C2

Hello to All,
I am installing new vapor barriers in my 65' Coupe doors. What is the correct adhesive, glue or "putty like" material you have used to hold them to the interior metal door panels ?? It shows the "bead path" in the AIM guide but not the kind of "putty like" adhesive.

It was the "putty like" material. However, it was different than the material used around the access plates in the doors and elsewhere. The access plate "putty like" material was a single, pre-formed piece and was of a different composition than the door vapor shield sealant. The access door seals were once-upon-a-time available in SERVICE.

The vapor barrier seals were a bulk sort of strip sealer. This material was never available in SERVICE as far as I know.

I just ordered new vapor barriers for my 66. What are you going to use as the sealant. I do not require a NCRS installation. What "putty" or adhesive is readily available?

Randy: What you want is "string caulk" which is usually available at RV supply shops. I've also seen a Mortite string cauld available at Home Depot. It's white and a little larger than 1/8" in diameter. Use it on a cool day and you'll avoid a mess.

I'm fairly new to NCRS style restos, so please bear with me. Does one really need to be concerned with the material used to seal these barriers to the doors? I haven't been to any type judging event yet, but it seems a little extreme to be removing a door panel to check the adhesive.

I agree. I may have misinterpreted Lane's question and Jerry's reply but it looked like they were concerned with what was original. I just wanted to know what will work.

I'd just use black silicone adhesive, sold in tubes.

Lane:

Original type is 3M Strip Caulking , black. This is available thru L.I. Corvette Supply, and most jobber type auto parts stores. It was used for many sealing and adhesive applications on the midyears, and beyond.
