Hello Everyone,
My 63C is so close to getting back on the road. Just a few trim pieces left. Interesting to find the Outer Window Seal Molding is a mystery to every vendor I've contacted. Has anyone run into this and located the part. Why hasn't this part been remanufactured.
If you are talking about the outer stainless steel molding, the 1963 Corvette coupe molding pieces are unique to the 1963 Corvette coupe application. They were not used for the 1963 convertible nor were they used for any other year model Corvette, coupe or convertible.
ALL of the 63-67 Corvette window reveal molding pieces were discontinued by GM MANY years ago and the 63 coupe molding was discontinued MANY, MANY years ago. It so happens that very little windshield outer stainless molding pieces are reproduced for ANY year model Corvette and most of the moldings are GM discontinued, too.
When you consider the above circumstances, the picture begins to become clearer as to why 63 coupe window reveal moldings are hard to come by. Will they be reproduced? Very hard to say. But, if they ever are, I'm sure it will be after the 68-82 moldings are reproduced and after the 64-67 moldings are reproduced. The market for those parts is FAR greater than the market for 63 Corvette coupe reveal moldings so the "laws of economics" will apply. If folks in the reproduction parts manufacturing business are going to get involved in producing VERY expensive tooling to manufacture these pieces, they're likely going to focus on those pieces with the greatest market.
Thankx Joe,
I guess it's off to the Corvette junkyards of America. I suppose if this is the only setback I've encountered throughout this project, I feel lucky.
I think that you're going to have trouble finding these even in Corvette salvage yards. You might try Pacific Corvette of Puyallup, WA, Paragon Vintage of Swartz Creek, MI or Piper's Auto Specialties of Vermillion, IL.
As a word of caution for your safety: make sure that you are sitting down AND heavily sedated when you ask about price.
