Are the 66 hubcap spinners the same as 65. I am wondering if the set of 66 spinners I have will fit a set of 65 hubcaps and be correct as far as looks go or were there a few changes in them.
Thanks Mike
The 65-66 hub cap "spinners" were different and cannot be interchanged and remain "correct". However, I THINK that the the 2 can be FUNCTIONALLY interchanged and will fit without problem.
Incidentally, the original 1965 "spinners" and original 1966 "spinners" were discontinued from SERVICE over 32 years ago and replaced, for SERVICE, by a completely round ornament which had no "ears". The complete hub cap assemblies were also similarly replaced. The reason was a federal government regulatory edict that prohibited "protrusions" on the hub caps.
The reason: I think that some of the folks responsible must have seen the chariot race in the movie "Ben Hur" and decided that "spinners" on wheels could be dangerous.
That "Winged Protrusions" regulation was a Nader-driven portion of the original Motor Vehicle Safety Standards legislation; interestingly enough, that particular regulation expired several years ago and has not been re-enacted.
