    C1 Trunk Lid

I have a copy of a '62 ad from either New York magazine or New Yorker magazine, showing a brand new '62 from the rear. The rear, passenger side corner of the trunk lid sticks up slightly, as does the trunk of my car.

Maybe that is a picture of my `62. Mine is up in the right rear as posed previously.

Does this mean St Louis was just

      building cars, NOT restoring them?!?

Often, both owners and judges 'forget' these were 'kit' cars built to defined tolerance specs that were sometimes not rigidly enforced by final assy QA/QC folks.... Take the rear deck lid on a mid-year convertible. The AIM spec for level/true fit of the deck lid was something like up to 0.25 inches above the main body with a footnote to the effect the deck lid's gasket would compress and lay down over time.

Given today's replacement rubber, these cars are notorious for developing a 'step' at the deck lid to body gap. Guess I'm of a mind to 'give' the owner the benefit of the doubt on fit as factory documentation actually predicted/allowed the 'slop'....
