I have a copy of a '62 ad from either New York magazine or New Yorker magazine, showing a brand new '62 from the rear. The rear, passenger side corner of the trunk lid sticks up slightly, as does the trunk of my car.

Re: C1 Trunk Lid
Often, both owners and judges 'forget' these were 'kit' cars built to defined tolerance specs that were sometimes not rigidly enforced by final assy QA/QC folks.... Take the rear deck lid on a mid-year convertible. The AIM spec for level/true fit of the deck lid was something like up to 0.25 inches above the main body with a footnote to the effect the deck lid's gasket would compress and lay down over time.
Given today's replacement rubber, these cars are notorious for developing a 'step' at the deck lid to body gap. Guess I'm of a mind to 'give' the owner the benefit of the doubt on fit as factory documentation actually predicted/allowed the 'slop'....- Top
