Hello,
Can anyone help me or give me some insight as to how to tighten the outside rear view mirror on my 1966 coupe? I replaced the incorrect mirror (wasn't even close) with a replacement one but used the original base hardware which appeared to be correct. It would not tighten down. Tried another mirror from another supplier and it would not tighten down. So, I repaced the base hardware thinking that items just aren't made the exact same way as the factory but the complete assembly, mirror and base, still does not tighten down. I know this should not be difficult as only one screw is involved but I just haven't been able to get it to work right.

A trick I used successfully on my 66 Coupe was to take the pot metal bracket (attaches to the door with two screws) and place it on a flat file to remove an even amount of bottom bracket surface to allow the mirror base to draw down for stronger contact with the paper base gasket. Also - check the fit of the mirror when you have the bracket and the mirror in hand to insure that the V of the interior portion of the mirror fits smoothly and deep enough over the vertical portion of the bracket where the allen head screw pass through.
