    Finding the right Carburetor

I have a base model 69 350/300. I am doing an body off restore and posting my progress on the Corvette Forum. I have often run into the wrong parts being used and am trying to correct them as I go along. So my question is I currently have a #7029207 carburetor. It should be a #7029203. Having trouble finding one and some on the forum say that the carb I now have is more valuable. Where should I look for a number correct carb and should I just rebuild what I have and take the point deduction if and when I get it judged.Thank You R

Roger, the 7029027 was used as a service replacement for many years on multiple models and multiple engines, and there are a TON of them around. However, if yours is dated for the 1969 model year, then yes, it's pretty valuable. The 7029203 was also used on full size cars, Chevelles, Camaros and Novas with manual transmissions, so it really shouldn't be that difficult to find one. There are always a few on ebay (HERE'S one for $125), so keep the faith, it may take awhile to find the date code you need, but you'll get there.

And when you DO find one, send it to Lars to do his magic.

Thank you Ed for that information. I was boxing up the 207 to go to Lars when I stopped because I realized it was not the correct part # for my car. Although the 207 may be more valuable its not right for my car. I will keep searching and go to Carlisle in 2 months if nothing shows up. There might be one their. Thanks again EdRoger

The #207 carb has the following after the # DA 0469 , is that a legitimate 69 carb???

Yes, probably. I say probably because 0469 decodes to the 46th day of 1969 or 1979. I'm not sure if this carb was still being serviceed by 1979 (the latest date I've personally seen was a 1978), so more than likely it's 1969.

Sorry Ed I flipped the numbers should be 0649. I think it just changes the day to the 64 day. Thank you so much for explaining it to me.

              Hi Roger,

The 7029207 service replacements ran into the 1980s. The tell tale that you'll be looking for to distinguish a '69 7029207 vs. a service replacement is a triangular pad to the right of the fuel inlet. Here's a picture of a service replacement on the left vs. an original on the right.

Pete, that's great info. Do you mind if I steal your picture for future reference? And yes Roger, 0649 would be the 64th day of 1969 since it does appear you have a 1969 carb. Congrats.

Well I thank both of you for your help. Maybe I can sell it to help my restore project. ThanksRoger
