    1967 lane change feature

I was reading with interest, posts about steering columns which led to turn signal cancelling cams. In the 67 sales brochure, there is a feature listed concerning turn signal cancelling for lane changes. I believe that, supposedly, if you pull or push the turn signal it will find a detent short of being fully engaged. When signaling for a lane change and then completing the lane change, the signal will cancel with minimal steering wheel movement. I am wondering if it was a standard feature of 67 turn signal cancelling cams or if it even found its way into production. Mine seems to want to perform this function but only in one direction. Was there a specific cam for this feature? If there was, does anyone make a reliable reproduction?

    Re: 1967 lane change feature

    Steve,
The lane change feature that first appeared in GM cars (not just Corvettes) for the 1967 model year is simply the ability to hold the turn signal lever toward the direction the car is moving and have the signal lights blink without moving the turn signal lever into the full detent position. So long as the lever is held in the off center position the signal will blink. If one releases the lever it will return to the neutral position. Prior to 1967 one had to put the lever into full detent to get the signals to blink.

Turn signals worked that way until the last 5 or so years when one only needs to "touch" the turn signal lever into the off center position to get the lights to blink three times. Now days one no longer needs to hold the lever off center.

Makes sense. My 67 Camaro works the same way.
      Thanks

Yup. I've often said if I was a cop, I'd cite everyone I saw for not signalling.

            Joe,

If the police ever started citing drivers for not signalling, they'd need plenty of back-up. It would be a tremendous revenue stream.

Shucks! You mean I've been using hand signals all these years without knowing there was turn signals on my car?

Heck most of the cops dont signal either. Other day one turned in front of me with a cell phone in one hand and no signal.

You are right Wayne, it used to be they would at least turn on their lights to go through an intersection. Now, they don't
Even do that. They just slow down and look both ways and blast through the red light.

I think it must be illegal in Phoenix to use the lane change feature or directional signals.
If a driver is using either they are thought to be tourists.
