Effect on Car Value with a "decked" Block - car has LOTS of Documentation

    hey all --

how adversely will the value of a car be effected by having an original block that was decked?

The vehicle has the Tank sticker, POP, owners manual and keys. All the pieces that are part of the engine and engine compartment are date/part number correct.

It is a 70 454 coupe, no AC but loaded up interior. still sits in the factory lacquer paint, no hit body, original glass and 99% of the original interior is there and in excellent condition.

I have a chance to get the car for a decent/fair price.

    Just wondering....

    Thanks
    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Any chance of it being a very early 70? If so, the vin. might have been stamped near the oil filter.

    Love those BB!

Some might say, you'll spend a lot of effort "defending" the originality......

i wil get the VIN and check it.

every other component on the car (chasis/interior/body) all real and original to the car.
Still has the spare locked up in the tub.

I am sure some wear items have been replaced over time, shocks/belts etc..

There would never be a question of originality on anything other than the engine..

Unless there are signs of the original numbers, it probably doesn't matter if it is decked or replaced. It would be essential to check the casting date and casting number.

This is what happened to someone else block had a faint build date but no SN. Terry Mac told him to look above the oil filter boss & he found the SN stamped there. It was a first few days of production in 1970.

Page 53 in the JM states the info, as well.

This car sounds like a clunker. You should probably forward the sellers information to me.
