    Expansion Tank Cap Gasket???

Besides the rubber seal on the expansion tank cap should there be another gasket at the top surface where the cap rides against the tank flange?

    Thanks,

Jim on the Radiator cap on the original #307 there was a flat aluminum disc. Its not for sealing. Most of the rebuilders use a stainless disc. and the reproduction are the same.

If there is no gasket between the bottom of the cap and the expansion tank flange when the pressure release opens, coolant could dribble out over the expansion tank. This "second gasket" insures that all overflow from opening of the pressure release is routed to the overflow hose that ends at the bottom of the chassis or the coolant recovery tank, if so equipped.

            All------

Sorry, I thought Jim was talking about a SEPARATE gasket (i.e not a component of the cap) between the cap and the tank.

All radiator caps that I'm aware of had the pressure seal gasket as well as the cap-to-neck gasket.
