    C1 steering box removal

I need to rebuild the steering box in my 61. I have copied a complete how to, and also viewed a video on the rebuild. I would like any suggestions for the removal of the column from the car with as little damage as possible. Thanks Ernie

    Ernest,
I have done it by removing the hood, expansion tank & LH exhaust manifold. Followed by all the other obvious stuff inside the car and the steering ball on the arm is disconnected. Easier if a buddy feeds the column so no scratches.

I was able to disconnect the hood and let it open up until it was straight vertical and since my 61 has headers, I had to remove the drivers side frame mount and was able to 'juuuuuust' get it out but as Gene already cautioned, it's much better to have some help when you do this because the column assembly is one heavy hunk of iron and sorta unwieldy. Good luck.
