DSCN1659.jpgDSCN1660.jpgDSCN1661.jpgDSCN1662.jpgSeems like I remember reading somewhere that a 65 BB clutch rod ( and maybe others) had two different size nuts at the swivel . These photos are of my original 396 rod . the firewall side nut is about 5/16 wide while the front nut is about 3/16 wide. The 5th edition judge manual only says two nuts approx. 1/4 thick.

Re: 1965 BB upper clutch rod nuts .
Bill,
I'll share my experience. I've seen original cars with both jam nuts and also with both full nuts. I didn't check what the assembly AIM calls for in different years. But my opinion is the assembly line workers used both. It may be as simple as what ever nuts were in the bins. Maybe John or Mike has experience with this issue.- Top

All of the '63-'67 Assembly Manuals call for the #124829 nut on both sides of the clutch pushrod swivel, and that's the thin "jam" nut; the plant apparently didn't care for that arrangement, and lots of cars went out the door with at least one, sometimes two, regular "thick" nuts. That was probably done on a "Local Deviation" basis, and never made it into the Assembly Manual.- Top

Never have I seen an original survivor C-2 that did not have the original thin nuts on both sides of the swivel!
The assembly line had only what was used at that station available to the line worker and would not deviate unless they ran out of the thin jam nuts.
Now I did not stand at St. Louis watching every C-2 that was ever produced and checking every clutch rod.
