Re: 67 radio removal
Yes, This is an old Thread.
I just Removed, Repaired, now Reinstalled my 65 radio in about 1 1/2 hour. It is not wired up or bolted down. I'm done for the night.
The String behind the chrome trim plate that switches the FM to AM frequency window came off. A simple repair but a pain to get the radio out.
1. Remove Both painted console trim plates. The Left side to access wiring connectors, antennae cable, ground wire ring terminal on Z-bar.
2. I removed the Bottom screw out of the heater Y duct and let it swing down.
3. I loosened the Right Air duct cable. I did not remove, only loosened. My tuner stems kept hitting this Taught fresh air cable. A little flex helps.
Get the tuner stems in a face up position and work the radio out thru the Right side and out she comes. The stems will be upright and will come out last.
There are jobs like this on these old cars that one wishes the design engineer was in the same room with you so one could stick a Large screwdriver up his _&$&%$@^*). Forgive me, I need a Gin and Tonic. BTW no console damage occurred. I will be getting my car judged in 3 weeks.
I did a search and nobody gave a clear picture on this job.
I truly hope this helps.
