Gentlemen, are there any known examples of a vin tag being made and then not put on car for approx 30 days? Facts of this situation: small block cast date E26 (May), Engine pad stamp 6/27 (June), trim tag AO Smith K22 (June). All of these seem possible, but the Vin tag on the car shows a number that the last serial number of the month reference indicates a very early June build.

Possible that vin assigned late for some reason? misplaced tag, etc etc.

Any insight on this other than this car is a complete "outlaw" is appreciated. thanks Hank

A month between casting and building of a small block is unusually long. Is the body really an AO Smith body or just wearing an AO Smith trim tag?

Is the VIN stamped on the engine pad? Lets see a picture of the pad.

Since the car was built approx. June 2nd, a motor built 6-27 would not have been installed. You still haven't answered the million dollar question - Is that VIN stamped on the pad and if so, post a picture if you want to know an answer to your questions.

From the info that you provided on the 1966, the K22 (June 22) build date on the AO Smith trim tag should have a body # of about 8000 if a convert and about 4700 if a coupe. The vin number range for these cars is in the mid 25500. This along with the engine being a late June (F0627xx) appears to indicate the vin is too early for this car. Does the vin number match the number on the title?

it matches the title and obviously too early. Almost like everything but vin could line up but vin blows it out of the water.
