    67 Tie Rod Clamp Bolt/Nut

I have two different tie rod clamp bolts and nuts. I removed one set from a February built 66 and the other set from an early September built 67. One set has bolts with three lines and "C" headmark along with a nut a split lockwasher. The other set has bolts with three lines and "TR" headmark along with a self-locking nut and no washer. I had the latter set (clamps & fasteners) Cad plated thinking they we correct for my 67. I cannot remember which set was removed from which car. My question is which set would likely be correct for my early 67 or are they both acceptable?
    thanks

IMO the clamp on the left with the locking nut would be correct, however, I don't think it was plated, as the entire tierod assy was dipped in a black "paint", prior to use....

Dereck, The clamps are natural, and sleeves are black.

        Dereck,
John Hinckley answered the finish question for me a year ago in a thread a year or so ago.

The audit process was random - if you want to duplicate the markings, that's fine, or not - your call; won't affect judging. The midyear steering linkage was painted with chassis black as a complete assembly at Chevrolet-Buffalo just prior to shipment, and the grease zerks in the inner and outer tie rod ends were installed at St. Louis (the zerks should be free of paint).

Thanks for all the responses. Looks like the self-locking nut is correct. As far as the plating goes the entire unit will be painted as described in other threads and not visible. I suspect TR, RSC, C, are among the various bolt headmarks.
          thanks

Both bolts were used I have seen the long bolt 1-3/8" I believe that uses the lock washer and then the 1-1/4" bolt uses the lock nut. The long bolt was used off and on into 66 some time.

I'd like to reopen this old post with an additional question.

In the pic in the first post above both clamps have two raised reinforcing ribs around them. Now I know they are described as 66 or 67. My 64 car has the same thing.

I see clamps advertised for sale with a single centered rib which is larger/more pronounced. Is the double rib correct for 64 or does it need to be the single rib?

Attached is a pic of what is for sale.

Ok, here is a NCRS 5 star early 65 and then my Mar64.
Note my tie rods are not painted (think 64 was painted with cups over them and therefore not painted - but verify)
Both have the 2 ribs! Mine is original stuff, even found the yellow when cleaning.

Alan - another question...the castle nuts in the background of your pic look like they have a radius in the bottom of the slots...do you believe them to be original?

Larry, the castle nut in background is original, also checked another idler arm set up from an original car & it's the same!
Did double check the blackout and everything is now black expect for zerks as John mentioned. John has some nice blackout
coating. Heads are all RSC and NO lock washers.
