CI (59) Front and rear Shock replacement

    Hello,

Is there any new shocks out there now that would be the same as OEM front and rear shocks on my 59? If not, what would be close to orginial OEM shock on a 59?

    Thanks,

Hi Hugh - You musta timed it just right to get that membership number ;-). Now to discuss shocks, it would probably help if you could explain what you mean by 'the same as OEM'? I'm using Monroe Sensa-Tracs on my 61 and wanted to avoid stiffer shocks because my 61 has slightly stiffer front springs, 5-leaf rear springs and Traction Masters. It used to have air shocks out back but that was due to the oversize 255-60's which are now gone. The ride is decent.

      Hi Mike,

Thank You for your post. Oh yea. Well I guess is there any shocks that are the same type that was on the 59, when it was new? Probably not, I guess,

Tires considertion, I have a set of Goodyear radials on the 1959 now the ride is OK/good But I will say they certainlydon't look right.
All my other antique cars have bias tires and the ride is OK, wondering on the Tires.I forgot, but I see that certanity affects the shocks, and the overall ride-- Good point .

      Thanks,

        Hugh:

If you want to stay with the original look, Dan Patch can rebuild your old shocks, or may have rebuilt and dated OEM set available for sale. However, they are not inexpensive. His contact info is in the Driveline, or you can contact him through this forum.

If you just a want a set of decent replacements, AC Delco should have something available. Many of the Corvette suppliers carry the AC Delco units. Of course there are also other brands like Koni, Monroe, etc. Are you looking for something like this for your car??

          Larry,
Thanks Yes, that helps. Just a question about how much are the rebuild orginial shocks?

No GM or Delco shocks are currently available. It would not matter if they were since they would not be of GM manufacture and would simply be an aftermarket brand shock in a Delco box. GM or Delco has not manufactured a shock in many years.

You can use Monroe #5751, front, and Monroe #5818, rear. These will appear similar to originals and will provide nearly stock ride characteristics.

                  Ed,
Thanks for note note. Auctions AMerica in Auburn, IN have the Car now and are making it right. I should get the car back soon. They picked the Car up by Reliable Carriers at their expense.

                    Hugh,

I'm sure that everyone who read and commented on your OP would be most interested in how Auctions America is going to "make it right".

Yeah, the ones advertised by vendors-Corvette Central, etc. at least say Delco, contrary to other post that said "no Delco available."

                        William------

The last available Delco shocks were GM #22064272, front, and 22064271, rear. The 22064272 is GM-discontinued. Some of the vendors may have some in stock but that doesn't change the fact that the shocks are no longer available from GM. The 22064271 is not officially discontinued as of yet but I expect it soon will be, assuming stock has not already run out.

Neither of the above shocks are manufactured by GM or Delco. As I mentioned, GM or Delco has not manufactured a shock in years. No original Delco PRODUCTION shocks included any labels printed Delco. So, in order to make any shock appear anything like original, labels, including Delco labels, have to be removed.
