    Wally,
Assuming you want to use a modern solid state internal regulator, but you did not provide much information. A single wire hook up is not the ideal setup. Research google on this topic to become informed as to the ramifications of such a wiring scheme.

      Wally -

Go to www.madelectrical.com and you'll find good tech info on why the 1-wire alternator may not be the best choice to make.

Wally agree with John, I rewired my 62 before putting in a 383 crate motor, 5 speed and modern stereo, used kits from madelectric and it was a snap. It may take a couple of days to reach him by phone, but it is well worth the wait!!

thanks for your replies, i did some research on this issue, only issue i came up with,
is that the amp gauge is only good for 30 amps. disconnecting the amp gauge and using a 1 wire hookup
the wiring system can handle the load with a 63 amp alt. important that the battery is in good shape and
kept up at 12 volts.putting a volt meter to moniter volts could put mind at ease on whether you are
charging correctly. not the cost of your systems but, is it really neccessary to add junction blocks and
fuse links and diodes, i will take my chances and let you know if all is well or i should of listened..
          thanks again, HARDHEAD

all together and running. just to inform all of you, with battery up to 12.4 volts headlites on or off
amp gauge showing about 5 to 7 amps charging.... this is with a one wire 63 amp alternator....
on initial start up amp gauge showing around 15 to 20 amps for less than 3 seconds and dropping
to 5 to 7 amps quickly. thanks again

Keep a fire extinguisher handy, remember you are using 50 year old wiring to handle twice the load!!
