Is the number one cylinder position on a 914 dual point distributor the same as on a single point? (1960 290HP FI) Or, is it in a different position?

Re: Where's #1 on a dual point distributor?
Keith;
I recently did a Pertronics conversion on a 62 Fuelie, replacing the dual points. Even though I found the lead set of points position in the distributor to be different than with a single point distributor, the cap # 1 position did not change. Needless to say, neither did the firing order. In all my 50 years experience with Chevy V8's, all stock GM distributors used on Chevies have all been the same. With the Fuelie, as you know, the lower section is locked down to the manifold and only the upper section can be rotated to set timing by loosening the clamp. I do believe that one may be able to rotate the top portion a greater amount than let's say a distributor with a VAC and perhaps allow positioning the 1# differently, but I've never seen anyone do it. Perhaps you should check a service manual for the exact positioning established by the factory.

Re: Where's #1 on a dual point distributor?
Thanks Stu. My only experience has been with single point VAC so a dual point is all new to me. I don't see anything in the Service manual nor the Passenger service manual. The only thing I found was the attached diagram in the electrical section of the AIM but I wasn't sure if it applied to dual points. IMG_3950.JPGKeith MacRae

Re: Where's #1 on a dual point distributor?
The position of #1 on the cap varied over the years from point-type distributor to HEI and dependant whether it was a passenger car or Corvette. The orientation of the housing also varied in efforts to avoid undue stress on the tach cable.
I don't believe there's a difference between single and dual points.- Top
