What color is the bar that holds the vin tag and the trim tags on a 1965 corvette coupe. Is it primer or body color or black?

Typically it is black. Not uncommon to see a portion on the ends green phosphate primer. The task was to only black out what the passenger would see. Some got more than other cars.- Top

Interesting you comment on AO Smith my findings show inconclusive. My three AO Smiths and each a bit different. Very early 67 black/white interior is very light black only on face side. The rest of the channel looks bare steel with light rusting. I would expect to see green. Late 67 teal interior the whole thing is green zinc chromate color with just a bit of silver body color on far right end. Blue/blue 65 the channel is only body color on right end to about the center of glove box, the rest is primer and then farther left it is some green zinc chromate color.- Top

Attached are a couple of pictures of the trim/VIN under dash bar from a St. Louis built, unrestored, Bowtie/Duntov awarded, 26,xxx mile '65 396 coupe. As you can see it hs the green primer on the bottom surface and blackout on the horizontal surface with a small amount of Glenn Green body color on the outer right side. Regards,
James West- Top
