    Ammeter question

A little background on my '69 BB car, I have gone to a larger alternator and added A/C and electric fans. From reading previous posts, this gauge is not a true "amp" meter, so is this a battery gauge/volt meter? My concern is, will the increased loads be any problem with gauge or wiring, i.e. fire, meltdown, etc.? Steve

    Re: Ammeter question

Shouldnt have anything to do with ammeter operation if the loads are hooked up to the proper places. The ammeter reads slight voltage changes, that indicate amps.

      Re: Ammeter question

My concern would be whether the chassis wiring, particularly the wiring to the alternator can handle the additional load. As stated the ammeter is just a voltmeter that responds to differential voltage at two points in the system, so the actual current through the ammeter is very small.
