Changing from a reproduction power antenna to a original c2 power antenna and have it installed and making final adjustment, question were they all installed vertical viewing from both the side of the car and from the rear of the car or is there any chance some was a little one way or the other not perfectly vertical I want to know how critical it is and how much time I need to spend trying to get it perfect both way's from the rear and side. thanks

Re: 65 power antenna view fron side and rear, vertical ?
JR I would assume not much time was spent on the assembly line. When I put my original back on years ago after repaint I just "eyeballed" it where I wanted it. Went thru several regional top flights with no issues. Best I recall there is nothing in the "AIM" detailing alignment. Unless it is way off center I doubt judges will even notice.- Top

Re: 65 power antenna view fron side and rear, vertical ?
Jim;
I have a repro antenna on my 65, and will be removing it because I just bought a restored C2 power original antenna. Could you please confirm how you went about the procedure. I would like to avoid dropping the muffler, panel etc...- Top

Re: 65 power antenna view fron side and rear, vertical ?
David, It's been several years since I did this install. I would start by dropping the spare tire carrier, not hard about 10 minuets. That may allow access. If not remove tailpipe extensions and let muffler rest on rear panel. If that does not give you room then pipe and muffler may have to come down. I just don't remember what all I had to drop to have room to remove and replace, be sure ground strap is secure and clean at connection to frame. Check out operation of radio and antenna before you put it all back together.- Top

Re: 65 power antenna view fron side and rear, vertical ?
The best way I found is to remove the tire tub, remove the exhaust extension and tie the muffler back a little. You don't need much. Then remove the rear valance and it's all exposed. About a half hour of prep makes it a very easy job.....Frank

Re: 65 power antenna view fron side and rear, vertical ?
Hi David here is what I found to be the best 1 loosen exhaust at manifold then remove center exhaust clamp 2 remove tail pipe, bezel and muffler bracket from car, you need the hanger bracket out so you have room to install antenna 3 remove the entire spare tire carrier 4 now pull muffler over to the center of car and tie with a rope 5 the antenna will slide up into place only one way, when you get it up in you will just rotate it to the correct position.6 remember to run 2 layers of masking tape lengthwise on the entire mast to protect it from scratching when you slide it through the shield and up into the fender. call if you have any questions. Jim 507 450 4536 7 also put the antenna lower bracket on last after you have it in place and the top fender bezel and nut on holding the antenna.(not enough room to get the antenna in there with that lower bracket installed.JR- Top
