Re: C2 Glue for weather striping
Enzo, Not all the weatherstrip adhesive was put on half fast in the old days. Some of it was rather neat. Use 3M adhesive remover if you don't like all the mess.
The 3 M yellow is all we have to use. It will fly.
On the other hand maybe the gurus here know of another product. Joe's right though. Most of the workers put the crap on with no regard to beauty. JD- Top

Re: C2 Glue for weather striping
Enzo,
I have used PlioBond weatherstrip adhesive on two Top Flight C2 Corvettes that went through national flight judging this year. Both cars scored just fine and the only comment from the judges was that I could have applied more and be a little more sloppy in my application. This adhesive is light brown (carmel) in color out of the can and will darken once exposed to the air. I will say that on a red colored car it is hard to see IF you do not apply it liberally. Be sure to use the one inch wide brush to apply it. PlioBond can be purchased through on-line aircraft supply companies such as Spruce Air or Sky Geek. A one pint can is plenty. This is just my opinion but the 3M adhesive is too bright of shade of yellow. I actually tried it before finding the Pliobond and removed the 3M stuff. To each his own.

Re: C2 Glue for weather striping
Does anyone use something different (not 3M) For the "anti-Squeak" strips on the bottom of a fuel tank? I looked at a 1965 AIM for "gm standard" part number of the adhesive. I will add that number when I get to the shop. Here's a photo of the stuff GM used in 1965. (I think this tank got more than the amount shown on the drawing.)

Which specific Piobond version have you used? I see it comes in 20, 25LV, 30, 35LV versions. The non-LV versions can't be shipped to some states.

Re: C2 Glue for weather striping
Couldn't wait. I went with the yellow 3M stuff. Cut the half the tube nipple off for more flow. Here's one of the runs. Color will looks right to me.
BTW, If you do this, stay very close to the back edge of the tank. See my real old (1965) tank photo above (post #7) where most of the rear cross member was missed by the anti-Squeak placement. Or, is it anti-squeek?

Re: C2 Glue for weather striping
I use Weldwood contact cement ( Lowes or HD) and an acid brush to apply it. Light coat on both pieces, carefully align it, and stick it together. It ain't a comin' apart once the two pieces touch. The color is very close to what you see on original, aged carsDick Whittington- Top

Re: C2 Glue for weather striping
In earlier years at meet sites, creative use of Heinz mustard in a number of locations was known to "carry the day" for judging....try to allow for one full day for drying purposes and apply it INSIDE the trailer or in some non-public area...judges are NOT allowed to wet their finger and run the "taste test"......- Top

Re: C2 Glue for weather striping
Sorry for the late reply regarding the type of Pliobond adhesive I use for weather stripping and gas tank anti-squeak pads. I use the Pliobond 20 adhesive which can be bought on line at Aircraft Spruce for $10.50. When it dries, it looks like the picture I attached of the top of the can.

James
