I have a copy of that article, but it was for a '67 or earlier. It sounded really simple, so I ran out to the garage to check it out, then found that I don't have holes in the frame/cross member that correlates to the spring location. bummer. But thanks anyhow.

      Hi Richard,
Are you looking for shocks that are 'similar' to the originals or shocks with the part number and date codes appropriate for your car?

As for shocks, I got a (correct) set for my '70 from Dan, dpatch2@kc.rr.com, (913) 515-3721. Not inexpensive, but if you want a a good set that'll pass judging, none are cheap... Give him a call and see what he can do. His ad is on page 42 of the latest Driveline. His shocks are correctly color-matched and part/date-coded.

Hi Alan, I suppose I am going to try to get as close to original as possible. But similar may work. I attended a regional meet in Altoona and followed judges around. They suggested that even if you don't have exact originals, at a minimum, if you make it look like an original set you will still receive most points. Any suggestions?

Thanks Kenn. I will need front shocks too. Just haven't got to that level of shopping yet. At this point shocks are probably the only thing I don't have to wrap up the rolling chassis. I will give Dan a call.

Kenn, Any chance of seeing some pics?

Be happy to. They're not on the car (it's waiting for me to finish another car, so I make my mistakes on it rather than the '70), so I have to dig them out. But I'll do that and snap some pics, closeups too (date codes and such).

                  Hi Richard,
The larger vendors sell Delco front and rear shocks that when painted "shock absorber gray" make a good appearance.
For example, check the front and rear suspension pages in the Paragon, CC, and ZIP catalogue. They certainly won't earn as many points as original dated shocks will, but are more reasonably priced.
                  Regards,
                  Alan

Added: I just saw that someone is selling a set of 4 of the Delco shocks on the CF C3 parts for sale forum. There's a couple of good pictures so you can see what their configurations are if that might help you decide what to do..

Here's an example of the stamped information on a 71 std. shock.
