There are several '96 Collector Edition LT1 and LT4's in the area that I live. Some have a Mobile 1 under hood emblem and some do not. Did GM stop putting these emblems on after a certain date or VIN number?

Paul------
Are you talking about an actual EMBLEM or a LABEL? I don't know of any Mobil 1 EMBLEM, although there may have been one. The piece I'm familiar with is a LABEL. As far as I know, it was used for all 1993-96 Corvettes. It was GM #10236268 and, believe it or not, it's still available from GM.
If the label was dropped before the end of the 1996 model year, it's news to me.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks Joe...Yes, that's the label I'm talking about. I called it an emblem because that's how it's listed in a major Corvette parts suppliers web catalog.Attached Files- Top

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Folks the Mobil One Label for the 1996 Corvette was dropped sometime around October 1995 (VIN 3034). I have 75 1996 Corvettes in a data base (not including Grand Sports) that I have created in conducting a survey of the Mobil One Label for the 1996. This change appears somewhat in the same time frame as the changing of the printing on various Labels by GM. They converted to laser type printing . I also have information on that change.
The survey was conducted as a result of an inquiry about the lack of Mobil One Labels on the 1996.
I am not stating for sure, but if you have the newer type of laser printing on your door labels you probably should not have a Mobil One Label.
This is just my opinion. This information has been forwarded to the National Team Leader for his review.
I have found two later 1996 VINs with the Mobil One Label, but we have also learned that owners put them on because the judging manual called for the Mobil One Label for the 1996.
I also have 15 Grand Sport VINs and none of them have the Mobil One Label. There maybe some Grand Sports out there with the Mobil One Label, but I do not have any in my limited survey. The earliest GS Vin I have is 600113.
I am attaching photos of the two different types of door Labels. The first photo is the type of laser printing examples The second and third photo represents the older type of Label. You can readily see the difference. This change over also caused some changes in the placement of other decals on GM models and the Corvette.

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Pat, Thanks for your help. My CE is one of the ones that doesn't have the Mobile 1 label and has a VIN number that's 105 units after the number (3034) you list above. All the rest of my labels are correct per the judging guide and I'm choosing not to add the Mobile 1 label. A friends CE, VIN number 102xxx, also didn't come with the label but he chose to add one. I'm assuming, after the judging guide is amended his could be judged incorrect? Best, Paul- Top

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Paul, glad to be of assistance. One question I have is that you stated the labels are correct per the judging guide. Are the labels the early kind or the laser (First photo) type.
Could you make an inquiry with your friend also.
I will add your information to my data base.
I wrote an article on the new type of laser printing for my local chapter and have photographs of the different placements of the radio label in relation to the Service Parts Identification Label once laser printing was introduced. The Service Parts Identification Label also changed in October 1995 as it went to the Laser Type. This is what started the survey as we were finding two different types of printing on the Service Parts Identification Label.

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Pat, Where is this label located? My CE is #1867 (that's my parts ID label in your attached "older" example from your CE Sebring Silver research a few months ago) build date 8/7/95 and I don't have this label under hood or anywhere else that I can find. Thanks, Phil- Top

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Phil, the label is on the base of the hood.
I am attaching a photo.
I may have asked this question before, but are you the original owner of this Corvette?

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Pat, I'm not the original owner. I've owned it 7 years and I'm the 5th private owner. The two raised lines visible in your picture are there but the label itself is missing. Maybe from a repaint at sometime? Looks like I've got a new item on my "need to buy" list. Thanks for the photo and I am interested in a copy of your survey, I will pm a request to you. Phil- Top

Phil, no problem. Please let me know if you find something you do not agree with so that we can adjust it. All the information that I sent you has been forwarded to the 90-96 National Team Leader. I started this survey at his request.PAT, Central New Jersey and Florida Chapters- Top

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Sorry for dredging up this old thread. But I am wondering if the change to the new style oil fill cap (w/ the Mobile 1 logo) correlates at all to the dropping of the label? My LT4 is #9304 (late Dec '95) and has the Mobile 1 cap and no label on the hood.'69 Blue/Blue L36 Vert w/ 4-Spd

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Floyd, no problem with your posting and thanks as it has opened another reason to talk to the guys.
Would you please send me/post a photo of the oil filler cap that you have mentioned as it could very well likely been the replacement advertising for the Mobil One Decal that was deleted from under the hood.
I narrowed down the change over from Decal to no Decal to about 60 units in September/October 1995.
Thanks for your interest.PAT, Central New Jersey and Florida Chapters- Top

Re: 1996 CE underhood Mobile 1 emblem
Pat,
My oil cap is exactly like the one labeled "1996 Corvette LT4 Oil Cap" on pg 131 of the TIM&JG.
