Re: 57 oil pan
1957 oil pan did not have a trap door, just the usual for the era horizontal baffle extending rearward from the second step over the pump pickup. It had two vertical grooves on the sides, one a couple of inches high from the bottom located just behind the front corner of the sump, the other the full height of the pan located about the center of the sump. Drain was located in the center of the sump and the bottom is flat. Later pans had a dropped rectangular area around the drain.- Top

Re: 57 oil pan
No trap door pan was used on the 1957 Corvettes. The trap door pan with one groove on the side was used on 1960-1962 solid lifter engines. The 1957 pan has two grooves on the side, one short (1 1/4"), one long, approx. 6 3/4". Email me and I'll send you a picture. edlepelis@verizon.net- Top
