In looking at my midyears, I am noticing that the welds where the bumpers are put together on the bottom sides are ground down pretty smoothly, but you can still see where the welds were. But I have seen some that have a rough weld, not ground down, and chrome plated over the rough weld. An unfinished chrome plated rough weld. Anyone know which is correct? Thanks.

Re: Mid-Year Bumper welds
FWIW, my rear bumpers were re-chromed in 1976 due to excessive checking, probably from TEL. The process opened up the weld slightly on the top between the side section and the rear section. In later years it became more noticeable because a little rust formed in the gap (you have to look real close to see it). Otherwise, the new plating and welds have held up very well, even though I continue to use TEL additives. Of course, re-locating to a warmer climate and much more limited use of the vehicle may have something to do with it.

In re-reading your post I see that I missed the pertinent info that you were talking about the under side. I was referring to the top side. Haven't paid much attention to the under side.- Top
