    66 tire size confirmation please.

    1) Can I install 215 70/R-15 radials on a 1966 without the front wheels rubbing the frame or wheel wells or the rear tires rubbing the wheel wells (or anywhere)? The judging manual states, pg. 82 they are good. Just want to be sure because they were on a 64 and rubbed. Thanks, Michael

I have this size or tires on my '66 with stock rims with no issues at all. I also have the same size on my '67 and stock rims.

As long as your suspension/ride height is correct there should be zero problems.

At worse the shoulder might rub the steering gear carriage bolt heads, but that's only an issue at full lock at parking lot speed.

Pre-'67 disk brake C2s with steel wheels have more fender clearance than '67s or pre-'66 with KOs due to the former having 0.44" offset versus 0.06" for KOs and 6" Rally Wheels.

Drum brake C2s have a little more fender clearance because the wheel mounting planes are about 0.2" more inboard than disk brake models, which is why drum brake C2s with the same wheel offset have about 0.4" less track.

If fender clearance is marginal, camber can be moved in the negative direction to provide more clearance.

Yup. I have that size on my 66 and those bolt heads stay nice and clean.

Thank you all, I am going to install the 215 70/R-15S ON THE 66. Will speedometer read incorrect? Thanks, Michael K.

As correct as a 48 year old speedometer can read...the 215-70R15 is virtually the same height as the OEM tires. Won't be off enough to get you a ticket

Gave it a try. Mounted the 215-70R15 rubber on the wheels the bias plys rolled on. Full turn and the rear of the tire rubbed on the frame; not a lot but enough to bother me so switched back to the plys until I spring for smaller radials, maybe some red lines. Thanks everyone. mk
