Looking for some information on '71 LT1's built between 11/24/70 and 12/31/70. I'm interested in the block casting date, engine assembly date and the build date of the car. I'm looking at one that has a engine cast date of 9/11/70, assembly date of 9/14/70 and car build date of 12/14/70. I know that this all looks good and I'm aware of the strike, but in my research so far I haven't been able to find 1 LT1 engine that was assembled in September of '70. Cars that were built in late Nov. and early Dec. all have Aug. or late Nov. engine assembly dates, but I'm not sure of their block casting dates. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: '71 LT1 Block Casting and Engine Assembly Dates
Have you tried Scott Lindee, who has been doing the LT-1 survey for a long time? He might be able to help. Also, you might reference the 1971 LT-1 article in Winter, 2007 Restorer. Can't swear the motor is original, but has CGZ in yellow crayon/grease pencil. I would look at the stamping you reference in one of two ways: 1) It affirms the motor in the article and they were built that day, or 2)Someone read that article and then stamped the block because that sounded like a safe date. Also know that #4213 was V1130CGZ, cast I 10 0 with heads cast H 20 0 and I 30 0. Keep us posted on what you find. Mike- Top

Re: '71 LT1 Block Casting and Engine Assembly Dates
Hi Bob,
While not a LT-!, the time frame of my sb is fairly close and the elapsed time from cylinder case cast, to car build, is similar to Ron's LT-!.
VIN # 6589
Build Date 1/14/71 (Trim Tag)
Block Casting Date 0 31 L = December 31, 1970
Engine Pad Info V0107CJL = January 7th
