leak in fuel tank

I have a 1969 BB Corvette that was in storage for many, many years. When I got it there was really no gas in the tank. So I filled it half way with high test and some dry gas. I got the car running after a fashion and drove it about 20 miles. When I got back to my garage I looked underneath and saw some fuel on the rear frame, a little on each side. No dripping on the floor however. When you look into the tank from the fuel filler, you can see a rust spot on the bottom about the size of a silver dollar. I also believe this tank was removed at one time as I can see where the undercoating or whatever it is has been removed in places. I would presume this tank is shot? It's a shame because this is an original car. Your thoughts? Thanks,

Ray, if it is centralized as you say it is repairable. If the rust is in other spots then that's a different story. There are repairs that can be made to the surface after cleaning. I used glass on my tug and JB on another and they never leaked again. BUT they were caused by water and only in a small area.
All repairs should be inside and not on the outside.

Thanks Dom. I will be taking the tank down in the next few days and will have an expert take a look at it. All this was caused by long time storage with very little gas in the tank I think. Unless it evaporated.
