Are the parts from this company genuine GM parts? They list the GM part number for their products. Has anyone have experience with this outfit. They have 1966 corvette auto scissor jacks listed at a good price. I wonder if it is the real deal?

Yes, most, if not all, the parts sold by GMPartsDirect are genuine GM parts. However, that does not necessarily mean ORIGINAL parts used for a certain application.
In the case of the jack, they do not offer an original 1966 Corvette jack. What they most likely offer is the jack part number which is supercessive to the original part number and which remains available through GM. That part number is GM #14016051. This jack will FUNCTION just fine for any 1953-82 Corvette but it's not configured at all like the original jacks. It's not really all that inexpensive either with a GM LIST price of about 410 bucks. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: GM PartsDirect.com
I have bought from them in the past with good results. For me, I find they have a limited variety of what I need or can use with my 63, but I always check them if I'm looking for something in the hopes that they might have it. If they do, I know I will get a good value. As an example; several years back I had ordered some B28 VAC's from several vendors and none of them met spec. I found then that they still carried them so I ordered several and they were all spot on.

Re: GM PartsDirect.com
I order from them often, mostly for GM parts for my newer GM driver vehicles. Not much for my vintage Vette. Anyway, prices typically can't be beat in my experience. I agree that you really have to watch their shipping costs though, which can be wildly inconsistent depending on the part(s) involved. Sometimes the shipping has forced me to source from some other GM parts supplier with online access (Pace comes to mind, but there are many others including larger GM/Chevy dealerships with online access).
In terms of genuine/original, my experience has been as Joe suggests. It's what you'd get from your local Chevy dealer, but that's not necessarily what your want for you vintage Corvette. It's not NOS, it's service and/or GM restoration program parts, and those can vary significantly from what came on your car originally.- Top

Re: GM PartsDirect.com
The price that GMPartsDirect shows for each part is the ACTUAL DEALER COST from GM. Except for stock allowances and incentives which the dealer may get from GM for the parts, the "shipping charge" represents BOTH the shipping + profit. You don't expect them to sell the parts for zero profit, do you? . Other dealers build profit into the price (i.e. they don't show their actual cost) and then add a lower shipping charge. Personally, I like the way GMPartsDirect handles it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I will respectfully disagree.
I have found the parts for equal if not lower from other sources.
On the shipping - disclose your practice vs surprising and shocking customers on your shipping practices.
Deceptive and slight of hand at best.
Honestly in my humble opinion is the best policy.
SO.....if your factoring in and adding their "profit" plus shipping maybe their parts are not the LUC (lowest ultimate cost)
Personally - I dont like it and will never order again.
I prefer a low price and acurate shipping.
Now - I get all my GM parts from a local dealer and get their cost (brother in law) - cant beat it
Hope this helps1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,

I believe that GMPartsDirect does disclose their pricing policy somewhere on their web-site. That's where I learned what I described in my first post. Otherwise, I would not have known it. I can confirm that the price they show for each part I've checked is, indeed, the actual dealer cost for the part. The other web-sites do not reveal the actual dealer cost for a part; they only show "their price" for the part.
Of course one can shop around and if one finds a better BOTTOM LINE price, then buy it from that source. I have found that the BOTTOM LINE price of GMPartsDirect and most other on-line dealers is about the same within a few dollars. Next time you buy a part from your local source, compare it to the sell price shown on GMPartsDirect (i.e the price they sell the part for NOT INCLUDING "shipping"). If the price you pay is more than that price, then you're NOT PAYING ACTUAL DEALER COST. Of course, you may still be saving money OVERALL, but YOU'RE NOT PAYING ACTUAL DEALER COST.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

If you can buy parts for actual dealer cost, I strongly suggest that you continue to do so. However, there are not too many dealers that will sell parts at actual dealer cost. From what I'm told, it's very hard to stay in business doing that.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
