hey guys...according to the judging manual, all wheel weights for the 90-91's are the plastic coated clip-on type. my tire store uses a clip-on, but it's not coated. is this acceptable and does it matter if they are on the outside of the wheel or on the inside or both? if not acceptable, where can I purchase the correct ones? if tape weights are used, how many points are deducted?... thanks in advance.

I do not recommend the use of non-coated weights on 91-96 Corvette wheels. The original weights were polyester coated and this helps protect the wheel's clear coat from damage. The coating on these weights is quite thin and it may not APPEAR like they're coated, but they are.
None of the weights originally used are currently available from GM. However, you can obtain original-style, polyester-coated weights from Patch Boy (www.patchboy.com). 1991-96 Corvettes use "FN" style weights. Will the Patch Boy weights duplicate the originals with respect to embossment and every possible nuance of configuration? Probably not, but they'll likely be as close as you can get.
BEWARE: Many states have outlawed the use of lead wheel weights (including, of course, California). In these states it's illegal to sell or use lead weights and most online sources will not ship lead weights to those states. Instead, zinc weights are supplied. These will be coated just like the originals but they will be slightly larger than the original lead weights. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

The number after the dash represents the weight size in GRAMS. I don't know of a source for "FN" weights in ounce sizes but there may very well be one.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: correct 1991 wheel weights...
Last week had my new tires balanced on my 1996 LT4 at the local Goodyear store in TN. Was told lead weights were not being used at their Goodyear store. Was told they use coated steel weights. To verify they are magnetic metal I just got through using a magnet in testing and my miniature magnet attached to the new installed weights.- Top
