    67 rag joint

Finally got finished rebuilding my rag joint what do you guys think. the rivets where a real best. the copper shouldered bolt was worn so i bought a small copper plating kit from caswell plating and plated it in like 5 min. also the eastwood sells a blackening kit for the 12 point bolts which works pretty good.

    Outstanding reconstruction!

PS: One last thought. I took over supervisory responsibility for the traditional flexible coupling assemblies (86 mm diameter) around 1970. I just don't remember blue paint dabs on the rivet heads at that time. They might have been there but I just don't remember.

HOWEVER: We introduced a new design, smaller diameter flexible coupling assembly (68 mm diameter) in the late 1970s. It was never used on Corvettes but let me continue. As we introduced that new design (on GM A and B-cars) there was a hickup with the rivet welder and a few assemblies were found to be loose. The next day we had a bunch of people dabbing rivets to insure that they were inspected for security. Since we were spending all that inspection money on the small diameter flex coupling, it stood to reason that the same riveting operation was being used on the old large diameter coupling and dabbing rivets should be applied to the old design as well. So sometime in the late 1970s I am sure we were dabbing blue paint on every rivet. Whether we did it before the small diameter problem, I just don't know. But any service flex coupling assemblies manufactured in the late 1970s would also have blue painted rivets.

I just wonder what if the judging sheets indicate anything about blue paint.

        Bob,
As I mentioned, I just don't remember blue paint back in the early 1970s. The paint dabbing was a reliability function and was never indicated on the product engineering drawing(s).
